Using the Status bar or menu command the Ortho status is automatically inverted
You can enable the ORTHO mode on the fly simply pressing the Shift key of the keyboard. The ORTHO mode will be ON as long as the Shift key is pressed.
The Ortho mode is used when specifying an angle or distance by means of two points using a pointing device. In Ortho mode, the movement of the cursor is constrained to the horizontal or vertical direction (relative to the UCS) and the current grid rotation angle.
The horizontal direction is the one parallel to the X axis of the UCS and the vertical one is parallel to the Y axis.
